Is photography allowed inside the temple?

Can children visit Kedarnath?

Is the trek safe during monsoon?

Medical aid posts operate along the route in season with basic facilities. Those with respiratory or cardiac conditions must consult a doctor before travelling.
What is the best time of day to start the trek?
Start by 5–6 AM. You reach before afternoon weather builds, and the morning light on the valley is magnificent.
Are there toilets on the trek?
Yes — toilet facilities operate at points along the route in season, though standards are basic.
Is drinking water available on the trek?
Stalls sell bottled water and there are refill points; carry 1–1.5 L and refill on the way.
Can I do the trek at night?
Trek movement is generally regulated to daylight hours for safety; follow administration rules and avoid night walking.
What if I cannot walk at all?
Palkis (carried chairs) and kandi (porters) are available at official rates, and helicopter services fly from Phata, Sersi and Guptkashi in season.
How do I reach Kedarnath?

Can I carry luggage to Kedarnath?
Only a small backpack on the trek; porters (kandi) can be hired. Helicopter passengers have strict ~2–5 kg baggage limits — leave luggage at your base hotel.

Which is the nearest railway station?

Is Kedarnath open all year?
No. The temple opens roughly May–October/November and closes for winter, when worship moves to Ukhimath.
Do I need a guide for the trek?

Is Kedarnath safe for solo women travellers?
The yatra route is busy and well-patrolled in season, and many women travel solo. Standard precautions apply: registered accommodation, daylight trekking, and sharing your itinerary with family.
Is registration required for Kedarnath?
Yes. Yatra registration with the Uttarakhand authorities is mandatory and free, done through the official Tourist Care portal/app. You receive a QR yatra pass checked at checkpoints.
How do I register for the yatra?
Online on the official portal: create an account with your mobile number, add pilgrim details and dates, and download the QR pass. Carry it with your original photo ID.
Is there a fee for registration?

Is a helicopter service available to Kedarnath?

What if my helicopter flight is cancelled?
Flights are weather-dependent and cancellations are common, especially in monsoon. Operators normally refund or reschedule per their policy — keep your receipts.
Do children need registration?
