Guptkashi — "hidden Kashi" — is where tradition says Shiva hid in bull form from the Pandavas. Today it is the yatra’s principal base town: hotels, GMVN rest house, ATMs, market, and the ancient Vishwanath and Ardhanarishvara temples. An overnight halt here helps acclimatisation before the trek.
